ACCIDENT ON THE RAILWAY.

A MAN RUN OVER AT TURAKINA. — A sad accident occurred at the Turakino platform yesterday evening, when a man, who is supposed to have been lying across the rails, was run over, and the lower part of his legs cut off. The accident was not discovered by those on the train, and the man was found by a passer-by some ten minutes after the train had passed. Directly the condition of the poor fellow was ascertained messengers were sent to Marton for a doctor, who lost no time in responding to the call. After examining the man, the doctor came to the conclusion that amputation above both knees was necessary, and ordered him to be sent to the Wanganui Hospital Word was received in Wanganui of the accident, and on hearing of the doctor's decision the authorities ordered a special train to be got ready and despatched at 10 p.m., to fetch the sufferer into town.
