The following Bills were intro duced and read a first time : — Mr Hutchison, the Criminal Evidence Bill, Mr Samuel, a bill to cpnsplidate and amend the Law wi h respect to Auctioneers ; Mr Heymour a bill to vest certain Lai'ds in the £ rporation of the Borough of Picton; Mr Kerr, the WaimeaiiEiverworks Bill; Mr T. McKenzie, the Californian Thistle BiUJ; Mr Ghunnes, the Borough of Brunner Enabling Bill ; Mr Hislop, the Corrupt Practises Bill ; the Registration of Electors Bill ; the Bill. - tr . Mr Fisher moved for copies of all correspondence relating to the escape of Gasparini be laid on the table of of the House. — Agreed to. The Colonial Secretary introduced the Hospitals and Charitable Aid Bill, which was read the first time, the second reading being fixed for Friday week. The House went into Committee of Supply, and the Treasurer moved an adjournment till 7.80. A sfiprt -discussion ensued, Mr Saunders ininaistingthnt the Governmeut should state what Estimates were to be gone on with, while Mr Scobie Mackenzie objected that the Estimates should not be< gone on with until after the Fiuancial debate. The ie lowing Bills were introduced and read a first time: — Mr Ballance, a bill to extend the operation of The Begistration of Births and Deaths Act 1882, in certain cases ; Mr Ormond, a Bill to further amend the Napier Harbour Amendment and Improvement Act 1887. Mr Fitzherbsit moved, That there be laid before the House copies of all correspondence between the Government and the Agent-General in England relative to the appointment of a Chief Railway Commissioner for New Zealand. Major Steward moved the seconds reading of the Education Franchise Bill, explaining; that the measures were the same as had been submitted to the House during several previous sessions. The second reading was carried on the voices. The second reading of Mr Hutchison's Criminal Evidence Bill was ' agreed to. The Estimates were further considered. tfniDAY, June 28.
