TINKETTLING.
Tills practice is one of the most objectionable of colonial tactics, j The noise is hideous, the object is questionable, and the point is missing. Still the happy bridegroom instead of slaying 1 a few of these tormentors, generally liquos them up, thus pleasiug them, and not hurting himself. We believe however that we have unearthod a new peculiarity of theso festive " cusses " \vh:eh is ououg'h to freeze 'he marrow of the rel tives or friends of an y inarriagable young persons.
This new fro ik is, to tinkett'o the bridegroom by d *[.v j ? If this is further developed .he unfortunite ' best man ' wi 1 have to take this diffi ulty upon H s shoulders, As we have sail, we b/iave this is the only instance known, and it arose in this way :— La-t w ee, Mr Dj,vid*on celeb ated the we ldi g day of Mr 01 vur, w'-io is in n^lani, by giving the bauds at the hemp mill, • dirtn-T, aid all went we 1. MiDavid oa was, a£ it £ rtuaately liappened aoieat the h Use, and \r s a »out re iring to rest in the evefliiij,', whe ihe was disturbed by a most horrible, tinkettling. For a period he could" not fathom the object, as he had not lately been married, nor had any one about the place. The noise showed no sign of abatement, to attempt to sleep duting its continuance was impossible. What should he do ? For a few moments he handled his double barrell, with a deciided inclination to let both off, in the direction the noise was thickest. At the best this might only do for two, and evidently there were many more than that, so he at last decided that whisky' ; would knock all of theni over quicker and cheaper than shot, so throwing open the doors invited all hands in.. The result was, as expected, and bribery and corruption was again triumphant in the colony. Still it was hard to be tinkettled for somebody else's fault !
