On the 23rd May New Zealand hemp was quoted as being in poor demand. 1900 bales were bought in at auction at £35. A few sold at £32. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ld. report having received the following message, dated 24th inst, from their London office : — New Zealand hemp, arrivals heavy ; market weak ; medium qtiiliy has fallen £2 10s per torn since last repoit This will make present prices £31 10s.
