The Manawatu Daily Times is now exercised in running tbe proposed Freezing company at Longbuin, and is ready to ridicule any other patent for presorv. ing meat. In its last issue it states: — In an account furnished to the Melbourne Age by its London Correspondent tbe mysterious powder which is alleged to prevent decay of m?at, &c, is said to have as some of its constituents a "sugar cinnamon, sasiafras, ni'rita of poatasium soda and sulphur," Sir Charles Clifford bad tbe temerity to attend lunch at whisb viands preserv«d with the «• powder " formed the staple articles. He expressed himself to tbe effect that the process i* destined to revolutionise the meat trade, but the correspondent pointed out to him that they had only the word of the promoters that the dishes they bad eaten were as old as they were raid to be.'' Tuia fitted m with what was wanted, but it w0. .1d have been fairei to all concerned to have added tba remainder of the report, irom wbiob the above was clipped and which is as follows " to which he Raid: Yes; that is so; but I happen to know some of the people concerned in it, and I can fully trust them ; and I have no reason to doubt that all they say is true. I consider that I am now sitting at what wi'l one day be looked upon as an historic board, so promising ii this strange invention." ■
