Buicki Colonel Gorton was voted, to the cnair. ; Colonel Gorton explained that it .was proposed to forni a company will a capital of £20,000, in 4000 shares of each to erect bnildidg« snd carry on operatione at Longbutn, shipping the frozen meat at Wellington. .Considerable discussion took place. Mr J. McLennan moved—" That it is certainly advisable, iu. the interest of all farmers on the "West (/oast,- to establish substantial fretziug works at Longborn, for the purpoßeoE slaughtering, freezing and shippiug stock, and with the view of carrying out the above, the following gentlemen be nominated as provisional directors :-~Messr« L. Wallia D. Buick, J. Ji. l J abcal, M. Prendergasc J. Bell. 3. I^iile, li, S. Abraham, J. Boll.C. BuU, W. Ooombit and the mover, with' powtr to Pjdd in their number." Mr J. Carroll seconded the motion. v . Mr Lyons asked if any provision had been made for a depot iu Wellington. The Chairman said it had not been considered uecessary~fo have a depot there. ' iQMr Lyons thought it essential that adepot should be eutaulinbtd in Wellington to hold a certain quantity of /stock. In the event. of a slip on Ihe me, the company would be unable to get their consignment* down to Welliogmjji, and they would have 10 pay for ti.e ■pace all the tame. Mr A. E. Butitell said he had been in communication with Messrs Nelson j Bros on the subject, and advice was strongly against t»e scheme. If they did anything, they ought to establish slaughtering works at Longburn, and ' ■end the meat down to Wellington to be frozen. Messrs . Nelson Bros. , did not think it likely that the scale on which tbe'atfair would b» brought out would justify the establishment, of freezing works at Longburri. They had strongly gdri*<<l him not to have anything to do with the scheme except in co-operation with a depot in Wellington. The Chairman said that, following, on that advice.
