BOROUGH CORRESPONDENCE.

At the last meeting of the Borough Council, His Worship the Mayor was requested to communicate with the Government on the matters of a daily train and the increase of the pilot staff. The following is the text of the letters sent : — To the Railway Commissioners. In accordance with a resolution passed on April Bth in the Borough Council I wish to bring under your notice the great need of re establishing the daily service of trains between Foxton and Palxnereton North on the same time table as it was be : fore the present reduction came in force. A great increase of trade has taken place during the last six months, and the general voice of the public in the surrounding districts all pray yon will grant the facilities asked for. We feel sure on; request will receive your very favourable notice as any

adility for traffic given upon this line 'draws trade upon the Government Kile, iA •opposition to the private line of the Weibagton and Manawatu Railway Company. To the Minister of Marine. I am directed by resolution of this Borough Council to represent to you that > the staff at the Pilot station is totally made,- , quate to carry on the duties of the position, and to request that the staff may be increased by at least one permanent assistant. A telegram from Mr J. Gr. Wilson. M.H.R. was handritinto the Council dnring the disoussid^Hlnd , we observe yon were wining the pro Tent pilot should hive an occasional assistant, but in consequence of the isolated situation of his home fully three miles from Foxton he cannot avail himself of this facility and it must be almost a dead letter. We can quite see your repugnance to employ a permanent assistant; still the increased trade fully justifies such an appointment, especially as the local trade is increasing very rapidly. I may say the whole district surrounding the port of Foxton are united in pressing the Railway Commissioners to resume the old daily train service between this place , and Palmerston North.
