HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
A special rtfeeting of the County Council washeld onSatufdaythe 29rd inst at 10.30 a.m. Present — Crs Bert, Eager, Thomson, Andrews, Davies, and Kebbell (Chair nan). After confirmation of minutes and reading of correspondence the following resolutions were passed : — That the Council employ Mr Bennett to make the necessary survey of Porotawhao road and tbe rddd going through Manawatu'Kukutauaki No 8L
That the tender of J. Carmody for section No 2 be accepted subject to revision iy the engineer and that the tenders for No 1 be held over.
That the tender of T. Bevan jun, forPoruauku section (§ £65 and No (j| £135 be accepted. That in the absence of Or Simcoz Councillor Eager be authofiad to sign cheques. That this Council having been informed by the Sufveyor^General that gravel pits cannot legally be taken under the Public Works Act 1882, are of opinion that as roads which are, Public Works , .can not be made and maintained .with* out gravel are of opinion that the taking of land for gravel pits should be legalised so that local bodies can obtain the necessary metal and that the chairman be instructed to forward this reso'ution to the Government for their consideration 4 .
That the W.M.R. Co. be informed that this Council regrets it cannot comply with the proposal to sign any agreement for the removal of the bridge if required to do so, and that the chairman be instructed to bring the whole ma'.ter before the Governor in accordance with section 321 Counties Act, 1886.
That Mr Armstrong be instructed to take levels and prepare plans and specifications for the formation of the Company|sroadbetween the Toko* maru Station and the gravel-pit at No 3 Road.
That pa t of Queen-itreet and the Forowhenua Road east on the plan of the Levin township from their junction with the present County road to the Arapaepae road, ana that part of the Arapaepae road north of tha Horowhenua road east to the point marked D on the Standard plan showing the County road said point D being on the Dorthern boundary of the Horowhenua block be taken as a County road, and that the County Engineer be instructed to lay off on ihe said map those parts of the Queen street and the Horowhenua road east, and of the Arapaepae road hereby taken as a county road, and to color them green or some other distinctivejcolour.
That tenders be called for formation of the two miles of county road, between the Ohau township and ' the Wereroa clearing ; tenders to be in by 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, 13th April uext. Payments were passed for charitable aid and «ome contracts subject to their being passed by the Engineer. Council then adjourned until Saturday the 13th April. — Manawatu Times.
