— ♦ '■ We aro in roceijjt of a letter fron. Mr Wilson, in which he NtfttON that. I
he has noticed that our contefii-' \ porary the Manawatu Times and ourselves, have been urging moro interest being taften in the impvoverriefnt of the river. Mr Wilson states that he is ready to assist and proposes asking those whose business is connected with the water, to meet him at Foxton to talk over matters. Whilst being only too pleased to acknowledge the courteousness Mr Wilson always displays, we cannot but draw his attention to his want of impressiveneas upon the Government, as during the tenancy of his office they have always met bis suggestions by promises of compliance, which, however, they have never fulfilled. Witness the non-expendi-ture of the sum voted for snagging the rivei? — the reduction of the pilot staff to a state of inefficiency — and the ridiculous pretence of providing a report upon the improvement of the bar. The inhabitants have done ■ all they can, and it remains now for their representative to suggest in what manner the attention of th« Government can be seoured. We hope Mr Wilson will be able to make some proposals at the meeting he purposes holding.
