SHANNON.

„» ♦ The Shannon School building committee held a meeting last Monday night at Mr McPherson's residence, and opened tenders for the erection of the school. Three tenders were sent in and were as follows : — P. Tarrant £46 10s (accepted); E. B. Stephensen, £52 18s; A. Casie £55. The Secretary Mr James 0. Hay brought under the notice of the Committee the contribution received from Mr Thynne, and on the motion of Mr McPherson seconded by Mr "Botting it was resolved "that this committee tender its best thanks to Mr E. S. Thynne for his kindness in advertising free of charges, tenders for the erection of a school at Shannon, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to him." 'In connection with this we may say that we are pleased that our mite has been so cordially appreciated. "Wo Jhave always taken the greatest interest in Education, and the settlers who aro engaged in the task of opening up new country, have always appeared to us to be i most unfortunately placed in regard 1 to the Education Act, so when we found ' the settlers around Shannon making such well directed efforts to he p themselves and were afraid to incur any liabilities for advertising we informed their representative that we should be happy to assist them. The result is most satisfactory, tho tender accepted being within tho , amount they have to expend. When the building is ready the Committee should use it at once 'or a concert and entertainment which would bring in a very fair sum.
