His Honor the Chief Jastice was occupied the other day with the hearing of a civil case, A. W. Carkeek v. A. Rogers and Daniel Murphy. The plaintiff sued for a dissolution of a partnership which he and defendants had in a flax- dressing business at Waikawa. As alternate causes of action, the plaintiff claimed i! 200 39 damages for failure to admit him to partnership in the Waikawa run on certain terms, in consideration of his negotiating their 15 years' lease, or £200 as payment for services rendered ; or that the plaintiff might be declared to be a partner with Rogers in the latter's one-third in'erest in the property, in pursuance of an arrangement. The defendants denied the partnership or any arrangement such as that alleged. A jVy of four was sworn i in, of which Mr J. Plimmer was chosen foreman. Mr Jellicoe was for the plaintiff, and Mr Brown for defendants. The case was concluded at half-past 7 when the jury found that the plain'iff was entitled to a moiety of the one third share acquired by Rogers in the property and business, but negatived the general claim to a partnership, and that for damages for its breach They also found that the plaintiff was entitled upon bis claim for a quantum me rait to £2 2s per diem from both defendants. Further consideration of the rase whs reserved, at Mr Jellicoe's request, and judgment will have to be moved for. N' Z. Times.
