HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the above was held on Saturday. Present — Crs Best, Eager, Simcox, Andrews, Davies, and Kebbell (chairman). The following resolutions were passed : — That the following alteration be made in the rate book — That E. J. Armstrong be rated for section 21, block 5, Awarua, in lieu of 0. E. Armstrong.

That the question of Mrs R. M'Donald's request be referred to a committee, consisting of Crs Simcox, Best, and Thompson. That leave cf absence be granted to Or Thompson this meeting. That the Chairman and Councillor Eager be appointed to sign all contracts of the Council with contractors, and to affix the County seal thereon. That the charitable aid hitherto extended to Mrs Abbott of £1 per week be now reduced to 10s per week during the pleasure of the Council.

That the tender of B. Pepper for supply of dog collars to Council for the ensuing 12 months at following prices he accepted, viz., 20-inch at 9d each, and 16-inch at 7d each.

That the Engineer take levels and prepare plans and specifications

for forming titse' County road! from the WaikSiiste 1 river to the northern boundary of the Otaki riding, and from that point to the formation already completed near the Kuku creek ; the work to be- let in about 20 chain lengths, to come out of Native Land rate and loan. That leave of absence be granted, to Cr Cootes for this meeting. That in accordance with theSlaughter Houses Amendment Act, 1888, the license fee for all slaughter houses be £l, with the usual fee for inspection, viz., £d for small cattle and 3d for large cattle, and that the Treasurer be instructed to return payments received for licenses in excess of £1. That Mr Frank Bennett be employed to execute the engineering work authorised by this Council between Manakau station and theKuku creek at a remuneration 1 of £13; per mile, the work to be done under the supervision of the County Engineer — this includs plans and specifications necessary for calling, tenders, Council to find paper and the County Engineer to inspect the work ; plans to be ready by the 26th January. That a special meeting of the Council be held on Saturday, 26th inst, at 10.30 a.m., to receive plans and call for tenders for work on County road at Manakau and general business. That the engineer draw up specifications for the supply of metal at per yard as required, and call-tenders for the same for use on the formation between Manakau station and the deviation to the railway bridge crossing ; the metal to be laid on the centre of the formation in a contiuous heap, width and length to be fixed by the Engineer. Alternative tenders for delivery of metal- alongside railway line will also be received. Tenders to be in by the 9th February next. That Councillors Eager, Simcox, and the Chairman be a committee to arrange with Hoani Taipua and other natives re payment of claims for compensation for land taken for Mill road, Otaki ; to report at next ordinary meeting of the Council. The following accounts were passed for payment: C, Nelson, £33 11s 3d; J. Waugh, £2 ; A. W. Carkeek, £6; J. Harvey, £6; Carkeek and Martin, £10 10s; C. Warne, £20 15s 9d ; E. W. Mills, 5s lOd; Pay-sheet wages, £11 8s ; C. A. Climie, jgSl 2s 9d ; J. M'Culloch, £7 19s sd; Manawatu Daily Times, £1 Is; George Murray, £2 10s; J H. Wallace, 7s 6d ; Eefund to W. Gillespie, 10s ; T.. Wray, £2; Mrs Abbott, charitable aid, £1. The Council then adjourned until the 26th inst, when a special meeting will be h,eMrlor receival of plaas and general business. — Manawatu Times.
