FBOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. Wellington, Tbis Day. The abolition of the Public Works as a distinct department is now almost completed. The Survey and Lands Department take charge of of Roads and Bridges, and the Defence Department of Buildings from Ist inst. The Railways Construction Branch remains at present under the.old Department pending the appointment of the Railway Commissioners. The New Zealand Times states the Colonial Treasurer expects no deficiency on the year's transactions, as income are expenditure are balancing. The Attorney-General and Mr Connolly, ex Minister of Justice, are again mentioned as likely caadidates for the Judgeship. Admiral Fairfax and the Squadron will arrive from Auckland on the 15th inst, and preparations for a fitting reception are to be made. The Admiral visits the West Coast sounds in his flag ship. At che first Dunedin wool sales held yesterday prioes averaged Id to l£d higher tbau last year. The competition was keen. The Messrs Kimross, merchants of Napier have filed for a large sum.
