Gladstone is by Prince } Royal (80), dam a mare by Old Wellington , granddam imported from ( Victoria. The well-known Clydesdale stallion Prince Royal was bred byMrD. M'Queen, Smeaton, Victoria, and was imported by his present owner, Mr K. M'Kellar, Doyleston, Canterbury. Prince Royal is hv Prince Charlie, who was imported by Messrs J. and M. M'lntosh from Scotland, where he gained seven First Prizes. His dam Blossom by Bothwell, wpb also imported from Scotland. Prince Royal commenced ms career ' as a Prizetaker as a two year old, securing second place at Ballarat, and second at Smeaton, where he was only beaten by Darwin, the winner of the Sires' Produce Stakes of _£GO. , Since his arrival in the colony he has ' always been a Prize taker in every Skowyard where he has been entered. At the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoial Association's Metropolitan Show of 1880 he was awarded the Association Medal and tha President's Cup as the best Draught Stallion of any age on the ground.
