STREET LAMPS IN" FOXTON.

TO THE EDITOP OF THE MANAWATU HERALD. Sir, — From informal ion received, I understand the Local Board have decided to ereofc a lamp in front of Mr Liddell'e premises, on the opposite side of the street, close to Whyi c's Hotel, and as a ratepayer I cannot see the fairness of it. There are plenty of places that require lighting, of far more importance than the site indicated, and as there are two other lamps to be erected not 100. yards apart, viz., one at comer of Clyde street, and another at corner of Whyte street, I oannot understand why the Local Board should place one between, not 50 yards apart ; and as Mr Whyte has a first-olaas lamp in front of his hotel corner, 1 am under the impression that we shall have too much light in Main street. What about the Avenue Bridge and Catnerons' corner, and street, in front of Howe's Hotul? I am informed thai the reason why the lamp Brat referred to (in front of LiddeU's) was not omitted from the programme was, that it would be breaking faith, as it was decided at a previous meeting of the Board. Well, I suppose we must look on the action of the Local Board as we would on the laws of the Medes and Persians ! What about the coming eleotion ? I wonder if that has anything to do with it ? More anon. I am, &c, Argus. Foxton, August 27, 1881.
