THE PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE. Guaranteed by the State. ALTHOUGH this office has been in existence for a period of more than seven years, it id believed that the objeots for which is was established are not sufficiently known or understood. It is desired to set forth in a concise form information respecting the business which tbis office undertakes : — 1. The charge of all kinds of money trusts, such ns M arriarje Settlements, money to be invested for the benefit of Minors, moneys bequeathed for charitable objects, monej-H the title to which is in dispute, or whose legal owner is unknown or cannot be found, &c, <.c. 2. The administration of the wills pf persous who by appointing the Public Trustee as theit executor secure the guarantee of the State for the due fulfilment of their wishes, a__d avoid tho risk consequent on the appointment of private persons as executors, who not freqnently, though earnestly desirous of acting for tbe benf-fit of parties interested, fail to carry out legally the objects for which they were appointed, and consequently involve themselves and those whose interest, they are striving to protect iv costly and harrassing litigation. 3. The administration of all estates of which no disposition haß been made by will, whenever relatives do not wish to incur the resposibility of administration, or cannot horn any cause obtain the necessary powers to act. In such cases it is the duty of tbe Public Trustees to discharge all legal debts so far aa the assets extend, and divide the residue amongst the next of kin. 4. The administration of the estates of lunatics, lunatic patients, and convicts. 5. The charge of all lands lying waste and unoccup.cd of which the owner is unknown, or who has been absent from the colony for ten years, having left no kuown agent.
