THE PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE. 1 Guaranteed by the State.A LTHOUGH this office has been in existence for a period of more than seven years, it is believed that the objects for which is was established are not sufficiently known or understood. It it desired to set forth in a concise form information respecting the bcsiness which this office undertakes : — 1. The charge of all kinds of money trusts, such as Marriage Settlements, money to be invested for the benefit of Minors, moneys bequeathed for charitable objects, moneys the title to which is in dispute, or whose legnl owner is unknown or cannot be found, &c, >ie. 2. '1 he administration of the wills of per* sous who by appointing the Public Trustee aa theit executor secure tha guarantee of the Stato for the due fulfilment of their wishes, a-id avoid the risk consequent oh the ap. peintment of private persons as executors, who not frequently, though earnestly desir oub of acting for the benefit of parties interested, fail to carry out legally the objects for which they were appointed, and consequently involve themselves and those whose interests they are striving to protect in costly and harraßsing litigation. 3. The administration of all estates of ■vhich no disposition has been made by will, .vheuever relatives do nut wish to incur the ■ esposibility of administration, or cannot aom any cause obtain the necessary powers o act. In such cases it is the duty of the Public Trustees to discharge all legal debts mv far as the assets extend, and divide the residue amongst the next of kin. 4. The administratioa of the estates of lunatics, lunatic patients, and conviots. 5. Tne charge of all lands lying waste and unoccupied of which the owner U unknown, or who has been absent from the colony for ten years, having left no known agent.
