Wellington, Saturday, July 23. The past week's business has not been brisk, the weather interfering considerably with trade, for stock but fair sales have been made to arrive — the arrival of the JJBowenr from Foo Chow with new season's tea caused a slight stir in the import market, we canuot report any business in teas ; it ia generally reported that values are not equal to last seasons. Dried fruits are firm ; elemes raisons are still held for at Sd, per pound and sultanas B£d, currants are however slightly easier, 6i is quoted for barrels and G£d for cases; lobsters are quoted at 9s to 93 6d ; salmon 8s 6d to 89 9d ; sardines, halves 9s, and quarters 5a Gd to 5s 9d ; oysters 63. Candles are in moderate supply. D.Rs, are quoted at 9d D.P. ; sales of Price's Belmonts aro reported at 9£d. We understand the shipment of former brands to arrive are heavy. Ala and stout has Lad some business. A line of 150 cases of Burkes light sparkling pale ale was placed to arrive at lis 6d for quarts ; Guiness's stout by Burkes has been placed at lis 9d ; for old champagne bottles. A sale by auction of wines and spirits at Messrs Laery and Campbell's rooms was not satisfactory. A live of Patterson and Hibbet's stout, out of condition, waß sold at 2s per dozen quarts, duty paid ; J i few other lines of ale and wines, also hanged hands. There is considerable competition among the different brands of ale and stout, which must result in prices given way a little. JHennessy 's one star case brandy is lower, srles having been affected at 38s Gd and 39 to arrive, Hennessy's bulk is slow, of sale, other brands are well patronised. We observe a line of Otard Dupey and Co is now landing, this brand has been bare in the market for some time. J.D.K.Z. 4 gallon geneva is enquired for and 18a 6d to 19s is quoted for proof spirit, Bursett's Old Thorn has been sold during the waek for a Southern market, at 12s 9d ; quotations for whisky both bulk and case are unaltered with ample supply and moderate demand. Galvanized iron stocks on hand are heavy and advice of considerable shipments to arrive, consequently this market has not responded to the rise of 10s. per ton advised by cable a few days ago. A line of Gospel Oak brand was placed to arrive at £24 ; the Langstone and Fernglen have very heavy shipments.— Wire nails are in light supply, and 70a. is easily ob- ' tamable for 4x7. Raw boiled and Colza oils have been sold to arrive at 4s. 2d. 4s. 4d. and 4a 6*1., respectively. Bulk castor is quoted at 43. to 4s. 3d ; kerosene is firm at 2s; for " Diamond," the shipment for New Zealand on the water are heavy, the Camille from New York for Auckland, sailed lat April, has 3000 cases ; the Bryan from Boston for Dunedin -and Lyttelton, sailed 16th April, has 3500 for the former port, and 1100 for the latter, and the Glenariff has 2800 cases ; our stocks atpresent are not heavy. Fencing wire is firm, sales have been made to arrive at £15 for *10 tgnq,eaqh. No. 6 and 8 respectively,- we cannot, report apy business: in woolpacks ; the competition in this line, however, promises to be .keen, southern houses are even offering at. very low rates. Colonial. Produce. —Flour is unaltered, and we have no sales to report of milling wheat. —Oatmeal ia firm at £12 10a. The excitement in pats is now over, and buyers can now operate at 2s. 6d. to 2*. 9d. — Potatoes are firmand r quoted at £2 15s.'
