THE SAWYER AND TH EPARSON

Rather a good thing is said to have taken plage a few Sundays ago in a place of Divine Worship at Westport (according to the Charleston Herald.) Mr Blank, a tall, manly, good-looking fellow, (who is net a regular Church- goer) whs persuaded the other evening to attend a place of worship. As most men do on such occasions ho clothed himself in <i do cent, gentlemanly suit, viz.. dark t rouse ra, long black coat, and white tie. It happened that the resident minister was slightly indisposed on this particular occasion, so at';ei' commencing the services in due form lie called upon Mr Psalms, a wellknown local reader, to offer up a prayer, who manfully stepped to the fore and performed the required duty The prayer being concluded the clergyman asked Mr Psalms to request a certain gentlemen in tho congregation, whom he knew to bo a travelling minister of their denomination, to finish the service. Accordingly, having spotted his man, Mr Psalm» walked down the aisle, tapped the gentleman on the shoulder, beckoned him aside, aud did as the minister had requested, him Mr Blank in the white tie appeared greatly taken by siupiiso, and asked, why such a request was made? ' Oh !' said Mr Psalms, 'are you not a minister?' 'Minister be (using rather a strong term). I'm only a common (another hard word) sawyer.' This should be a warning to clergymen, and also to Mr Psalms, not to tako every man who wears a long coat and white tie for a minister of religion
