Their Industrial Exhibition closed on Tuesday night, and we now learn the committee have telegraDhed to the Government suggesting that a sum of money bo placed on the estimates to hold an International Exhibition at Dunedin in 1883. D.m't they wish they may get it. Whitelaw's Case.— The charge against Whitelaw of illtreatini» a patient has fallen through, owing to the Mount View Asylum never having been proclaimed, as required by law. He was therefore tried on a charge •>f common assault, but the jury beiny unable to agree were discharged. An application for a new trial was then granted, and a rehearing will therefore take place on Thursday. July 21. Sandon-Foxton Road. —This road is now in very fair condition, and we understand traffic is on the increase. The work done during the year in forming water tables and raising the crown of the road has had a beneficial effect. We would, however, suggest to the County Eugiueer that if he were to instruct the roadmen to clear or burn off the toitoi bushes along the road, a very much wider area of roadway would be obtained than at present. Tlie traffic being at present confined to one narrow track makes the road very much heavier than it needs to be, or than it would be if the course we suggest were adopted. The cost of clearing the road woul I probably be only a few pounds, and we are certain that if effected it would be regarded as a great boon by both horsemen and carters. The rev. lecturer delivered a lengthy and able lecture, aptly illustrated by a very complete set of diagrams on cloth.
