[Advertisement.] ME LOUDON'S REPLY. » to tiieJedttop of the manawatu herald. Sir, — In your issue of the 21st, Mr Howan replies to mine of the 17 th re. Church property. Were it not that Mr Howan, in his zeal to collect subscriptions, somewhat over-rated my good qualities, I would not have troubled myself one way or the other, and now, with a view to assist Mr Howan in his search for facts, I will just mention a few. Ist. Mr Howan does not dispute mj willingness to convey the said property, but says I promised to do so at my own cost. Well, this is rather good. I confess I do not recollect this generous impulse, but then he says he does. Ido recollect giving instructions to Brandon and Quick to prepare the conveyance in question, and it fell through because no one would take the responsibility of paying for it. 2. The Church was unused for a very long period before being used by a Methodist minister. 3. It was not occupied by the Brethren when I used it temporarily to put goods in while shifting my store to another site. 4. Did Mr Howan, when trying to purchase the property from Mr Haroourt, act for himself or for the whole body ? and did he intimate to the original trustee that it was on his account ? or was he willing to violate the wish of the deceased donor, which he pretends to hold bo sacred ? and, again, will he now pay the cost of the conveyance? or subject the property to the risk of being again placed beyond the reach of those iot whom it was intended ? If he or those who agree with him wait till I convey it free of cost perhaps 11 years more may elapse. I know Mr Howan is a liberal man himself, for on one occasion he would have had the building painted if I had paid the cost, and he would even have gone so far as to have a neat little fence erected in front on the same condition). As I have to pay for this as an advertisement, I shall consider this my last donation towards that object. I am, &c, P. Loudon. Wellington, June 23, 1881.
