Wepnesday, June 15, 1881.' (Before R. Ward, Esq.. R. M. (Chairman), Rev. J. M'William, and ;W. If. Simcox, Esqs'., Commissioner* ) MR HARPER'S APPLICATION. : . Mr John Harper applied for a license for a. building occupied by him at Otaki : He stated it was the wish of a number of residents at Otaki, and presented a petition signed by a number of travellers in support of the application. Applicant also expressed his willingness to add to the building, 'if the Bench thought it necessary. OHAU PERRY. ■ Thos. Roach applied for a renewal of his license for the above inn — Constable Mitchell gave a very favorable report on the conduct of the house. TELEGRAPH HOTEL, OTAKI. Wm. Greenough applied for a renewal of his license. Mr W. N. Ward appeared for the applicant, and stated that the additions which Mr Greenough had purposed making had not yet been completed, owing; to the delay which had occurred in the arrival of some timber, but the house would be improved as soon as possible. In answer to the Bench, Mr Greenough stated that he intended making the alterations suggested by the Chairman. It was stated he was in Wairarapa. The Court said they wou^ consider the matter of the whole of the, licenses with closed doors. After a deliberation of twenty minutes, The Chairman announced the Bench's decisions as follow :— With' regard to Mr tfdy's application, as he was not present the Bsnch held that no application was before them. In Mr Roach's case, the application would be granted. With regard to Mr Harper* application, the Bench, had arrived at the decision not to grant the license. In Mr Greenough's case, the Bench had oaretylry^ considered the application^ ari<f subject to the additions which -the applicant had promised being made, the license ; would be granted. At present the Court did not consider the accommodation was satisfactory, and the improvements must be carried out forthwith. ... The constable was instructed to report on the matter at next sitting of the Court. . The Court then closed. •
