♦ The following*firtne~report of tn«» Cjhristchurch Corn Exchange for the week eliding Friday, the 20th of M&yi— ' There ia no quotable alteration to record in the value of cereals. ' ' Business on the whole has been exceedingly quiet during the week. The shipment of grain from Lyttelton continues ' without abatement, and there are still large quantities on hand. The weather has been all that could be desired for farming operations.— Wheat : Not r withstanding recent' advices from Home, indicating a fall in prices, the local market is firm.: Tuscan in large lines continues ta be sought after, and will command 3s 9d to 3s lOd, f.o.b;. where the sample is of exceptionally good quality; cle&u and fit for seed, 4'a to 4s 3d per bushel is obtainable. Velvef chaff and pearl, 3s 7d to 3s 8d ; Hunter's white, 3s 5d to 3s 6d, per bushel ; the seed 1 wheats range from 3s 9d to 4s 3d per bushel ; seconds from Is 1 6d to 2s 6d pei bushel.— Oats :• There* is still a good inquiry, and holders' are firm in their demands; '^Gdod bright milling qualities are •saleable St from Is lOd to 2s, £o.b. ; jfeed Samples, Is 7d to Is 8d ; inferior feed samples, 2d per bushel under the lowest quotations. — Barley : A few transactions continue to take place, but the market is extremely heavy, and sales are difficult; to effect. Exceptionally good malting samples are, however, readily saleable at from 3a to 3s 6d ; medium, 2s 3& to 2a 9d ; feed quality, Is 9d to 29 per bushel. — Potatoes: The market is still in a very unsettled condition, and buyers appear chary of investing in the tuber. A few orders, however, are making their appearance on the scene, and this will doubtless reiuspire confidence. It is difficult to give exact quotations in the present state of things, . and some small sales have taken place, .under what some buyers are prepared to. give,; last week's quotations may be repeated, viz., 31s 6d to 34s at country stations, sacks ex tra. — Grass Seed : There is no alteration to note in the state of the market, 4s 61 to 5s per bushel 'being the figure for reall well cleaned farmers' .. sain. pies ; indifferently cleaned, according to. sample. — Cocksfoot : There is a very decided advance in quotations, during, the past fortnight Holders are now asking from 3d to.3£d per lb ; orderß are coming to hand, with! the market rather bare.— Cheese and Butter : The former is still in plentiful supply, and the market -heavy at 3d to 3&d. The latter is saleable at from 7£d to 8d per. lb.— Hay ; £2 10a to £2 lfa per ton, delivered in Christchurch.
