i ■ I^is concorPWas held with great success I on Thursday evening last in the College, OtakL The v large room in the building had been whitewashed and papered for the occasion, and was well lighted ani tastefully decorated with evergreens. The attendance at the concert was extremely good, cousidering the very boisterous state of the weather, a heavy uor-wester blowing at the time, accompanied by sheets of rain. The proceeds of the entertainment realised 4'G Is oi. A capital feature of the concert was the number of glees and part-songs given, numbering seven in all. Of these .." Beware " ( Hattou), "Gather ye ro3ebu Is " (Bartholomew), and •• The Hardy Xorsemau " (Pearsall), went the best.— A part song " Hoses red," sang by the children attending the school, was capitally rendered, and the last A'erse was repeated for an encore. The songs contributed in the first part were "The village blacksmith," by Rev. J. M # William, " Yesterday, "^Mrs Greenough [encored] ; and "The Message," Miss Simcox. A duet, " Pulaski's Banner, "was also contributed by Mrs M'Williain and Mis 3 Simcox. In the second part Mrs Simcox received a well deserved eitcure for " King on, sweet Angelus/'and a similar honor Was bestowed on Miss Simcox for her piano solo, " Nel sileniio." We must not omit to mentipu a solo" on the piano by Miss Bright, "The Battle March of Delhi, 1 ' which was played with great precision and was loudly applauded. A duet, " The messenger swallow," was also sung in the second part by Mrs and Miss Simcox, and was. well received. Mr Lee also sang, in the second park, "Never lose a friend." Altogether, the concert was a success iv every way, and thoroughly pleased the audience Much praise is due to Mr >S ; mcox for the admirable manner in which he conducted tho affair throughout. We understand that another concert will be held at Otaki in about a month's time.
