OTAKI HIGHWAYS BOARD.
Wednesday, April 13, 1881. The Hoard met at 9.80 a.m. Present — Messrs Simcox (Chairman), Davies, Hadfield, and M'Crae. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Objections to the valuation list were read from the following persons W. H. Simcox, Thos. Bevan, A. Carmont, J. Abbott, Woods* Crosbie

Pratten's case, which was ordered to be reduced from £10 to £5. j Letter read from Mr Kebbll requesting, leave of absence for this meeting. Granted. The Board then adjourned till 2 p.m Upon resuming the remainder of the business was proceeded with. Letter read from the Chairman of the School Committee, granting the Board's request to be allowed to erect an office temporarily in the school paddock. -■ -■•■•-■ -- ~ Letter read from W. Smith, requesting permission to erect a verandah in front of his shop. Referred to the County Council. Letter read from W. Udy, lesigning his position as Warden for Ward No 6. His resignHtion was accepted, and the Clerk was_ ordered to give notice of the vacancy. Circular read from ' Manawatu Connty Council, re aid to local bodies. Tenders for forming and metalling thirty chains, more or less, ot a road known as the River Road, were read as follows : — Henare Roera, £3 16s per chain ; Thos. Udy, £3 6s ; formation only, John Mastin, 16s ; formation and metalling. Kipa te Whatunui, £8 9s; James Cootes, £2 1 9s; Thos. Cootes, £2 14s Proposed by Mr Hadfield, seconded by Mr M'Crae, and carried— <4 Tnat the tender of Thos. Ceotes for forming and metalling thirty chains of River Road at £2 14s per chain be accepted, subject to the work being commenced immediately on approval of the line by the Government." The tender of John Payne, for supplying timber lor building an office for the Board at 15s per 100 ft, was accepted. Tenders for building Highways Board office were read as follows : — Phillip West, £15 ; Messrs Able and Millar, £10 ss ; Messrs Able & Millar's tender was accepted. Proposed by Mr Hadfield, seconded by Mr M'Crae, aud earned, " That a rate of sixpence in the £ be made on the annual value of all rateable properties in the Otaki ignways District, for one year from Ist April, 1881, and ending on the 3lst March, 1882 ; such rate to be dnc and payiibje on the 11th May, ]881, at the Highways Board office, Otaki. Mr Payne's account for timber for building an office was passed, subject to revision by the Chairman. ~#^ Accou nts to the amount of £ 1 1 17s 6d were passed for payment. The next meeting of the Board will be held on the 11th May next at 2 p.m.
