(reuter's telegrams). Melbourne, March 24. Iv the Legislative Assembly, last night, the Reform Bill was read a third time on a division of 48 to 27. An amendment, moved by Mr Grannson, that the Legislative Council should be elected in 1883, was previously accepted by the House, but a motion by Sir Bryan O'Loghlen. to refer the Bill to a select committee, was ruled out of order. Athens, March 28. M. Couinoundouros, the Premier, made a speech today dealing with the present negotiations for the settlement of the frontier difficulty with Turkey. In the course of his remarks he expressed the opinion that though there was every possibility that Greece would be compelled to go to war to enforce her rights, an outbreak of hostilities with Turkey was not inevitable, and might be avoided by negotiation. Paris, March 23. The Opera House at Nice was totally destroyed by iire tonight. The conflagration broke out during the performance, and nearly one hundred persons perished in the flames. Melbourne, March 24. The Legislative Council tonight passed a resolution declining to receive the Beform Bill from the Assembly for consideration, on the ground that the question had already been dealt with during the present session, and moreover, because the House was of opinion that such a measure should have been initiated in the Council, and not in the Assembly. March 26; Snperindent Nicholson has stated before the Police Board of Enquiry that the to al cost of searching for the Kellys was £22,225. London, March 23. At the wool sale today 7500 bales were offered, and the' tone of the market remained firm. March 21 It is announced that' orders have been telegraphed from the Horse Guards to General Sir Fredrick Roberts, at the Capo, instructing him to return to England without proceeding to the Transvaal, in accordance with instructions issued to him on his departure from England. Sydney March 25. Hennessy's brandy, in casp, 375. Kerosiur-, diamond, Is. Bd. ; Devoe's, Is. lOd. New Zealand .oats, per bushel, 2s. Gd. ; maize, per 601 b., 3s. 3d. Melbourne, March 25. The Age today, in its leading article, comments in angry terms upon the action of the Legislative Council in declining to consider the Beform Bill. The Argus also disapproves the shelving of the Beform question, and says that the country expects that the measure should be decided on its merits. London, March 24. _ There is little enquiry for the best sides of Australian hides, and prices are l-8d lower. At tho wool sale .today 9000 bales were catalogued, and the tone of the market continued firm. 21,000 bales have been' withdrawn from sale since the opening. A motion similar to that recently passed by the House of Lords in favor of the retention of a British force at Candnhar, is now being debated in the House of Commons. In the House of Commons today a question was put to the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs with the object of ascertaining whether the Government were in possession of information as to the intentions of the Bussian Government in regard to Central Asia. In reply Sir Charles Diike stated, that the Government had learned that one of the first acts of the Czar Alezander the Third, had been to definitely recall General Skobeloff and order the permanent cessation of hostilities against the Turcomans.
