TO THE EDITOR OF THE iIAKAWATU HERALD. Sib,— May I call the attention of the ratepayers of Foxton, through the medium of your valuable journal, to this query :— What authority have the members of the School Board to sanction the use of our public school to private individuals as a aaaoing room T I am not aware the public school can be let on hire, or be used by a Umfritnd* to indulge in a select dance at the expense of the ratepayers. There is a Public Hall in Foxton, and why didn't tuese few friends hire it on Wednesday eveainK last after the concert was over ? I believe they (the friends) engaged a band for the musical part of their amusement, and why not— if they seek pi asure — dance in a private room or pay for the use of our EfeMic Hall ? I question, sir, if the School Board Committee have the power to allow oar State School to be made use of in this way. laja,&a, Observer. February 19th, 1881. (The School Committee have full powei to grant the use of the building for any pu'puao thvy choose Whether it is desii •ble to km that power is another thing. In the present instuice, we thiak the Comcaittae have established a preoedwnt tbnt may lead to unpleasantness in the future. —KB. At. Hejulp.]
