PROJRCTED ALTERATION IN THE TIMETABLE.
We understand that alterations of I an important character are likely to he ingde,. shortly in the timetable ITpon wie district railway. Briefly, they amount to this. The seven j o'clock train, from Foxton will he i abolishe^^train starting for FoxH ton from Halcombe at that honr, and arriving at 10 a.m. The first outward train from Foxton will start an hour afterwards, at 11 a.m., and will return to Halcombe. The even-, ing' maii'' train will remain as at pi-teseut. The above alterations, which will come into force in a few days, arc iv the right direction. We have all along maintained that the train service should be arranged to serve persons desirous of doing business at the port, and aye therefore pleased to see that the railway wiy thorities have at last, though tardily, adopted our views. We aye .-certain that ' a large increase in the passenger traffic at this end will take place uuder the new arrangement. The present timetable is. eminently calculated to damage traffic, but we believe the new one will induce it. We havo not heard Jiow tho proposed alterations will affect the service at the Wauganni end. .
