LETTER FROM TUHI TO THE GOVERNOR.

A letter, of which the following is a translation, was add res Jed by Tuhi to his Excellency the Governor : — The Gaol, 23rd. December, 1880. Go, this letter of mine to the Governor,— Friend, greeting — I have heard that I am to be put to death on Wednesday, and I am willing to die on that day, but I have a word to .ay to you : Let my bad companions, your children, beer, rum and other spirits, -tie with me. Let those persons, beer, rum, and o*her spirits die witb me ; they led us to commir wrong, and now let us die together one deatb on the day that 1 am to die; It will not be right that they survive that day, but I and my bad compuiions should dio together, lest tbey should remain to lead people to death ; but as I ara to die, let spirits dio also ; do not leave any of its kind iv the world ; let it be de- , stroy. d frohi tbe face of this earth, lest it should remain tn cause trouble to man ; man would then be answerable for his own troubles.
