SERIOUS COACH ACCIDENT AT WELLINGTON.

I MR T. MA HER HURT. There was considerable excitement in I Foxton yesterday morning upon it becoming known that ihe coach had collided with the Wellington tramway tha previous evening, and that Mr Muher, the driver, was seriously hurt. From the N, Z. Times of yesterday we gather the following particulars : — " The inward Foxton coach, with its four horses, driven by Thomas Maher, one of Messrs Hnstwell & Macara's oldest and mosi reliable diivers, was proceeding up Willis- | street, when just past the Empire Hotel it met the tram cars and engine on their way to the; Kail way Station. Une of the coach horses shied at the engine, and the whole team rushed off violenty, the couch coming into collision with Messrs Dwan & Lo's verandah posts. The result was t hut the whole of the upper portion of the coach was torn oft" and hurled into the roadway. The driver was pitched into the right-of-way adjoining Messrs Dwan's premises, the coach passing over him, and the horses galloping a; full tear up the street. Malier was picked up by spectators of the accident, and carried at once across the road into the Melbourne Hotel. Dr Harding wus sent for an.J promptly attended and examined the injured man. He was found not to have broken any bones, though he was consider--1 ably bruised about the ribs and his face much cut. He was evidently in great pain, . but it was not Dr Hardiug'a opinion at the time that any internul injuries, beyond a severe shaking, had been sustained. There were three travellers in the coach, but beyond an evident shaking, pone of them appeared to be injured, aud all hurried off to their destinations. Ihe horses tore up the street at a full gallop, with the battered body of the coach, aud turned itto Mannera-street. Meeting here a wood cart, the coach horses ran into the cart knocking offone of the wheels, but with' out mjury to the driver, or his horse. At this juuciure, Air blood, of the Colonial Bank, who was passing, pluckily seized the coach leaders by the rein, and swung them round to the Duke of Edinburgh side of the street, thus arresting their farther career of mischief. Together with the debris of the couch the horses were removed to Messrs hastwell and Macara's premises, livery attention to the injured driver was subsequently rendered by Mr Macara aud hw manager, Mr Smith, and, as he was evidently suffering intense pain, he was removed to the Hospital." Kroin telegrams received yeite rday morning by Mr Wuyte, und courieously handed to us, we learn that Air Maher passed an easy uight after the accident, u D d t»-at though badly injured, the doctors did not anticipate any serious results. General sympathy is expressed for him and hi» family.
