NEW RUSH TO THE TERMAKAU.
In the course of an article jii this subject the Kumara Times gives the following information :- Tt appears that the prospectors, Joseph Drake, Alfred Stone, Frederick Farmer, and John Stone have been for some months engaged in endeavoring to trace the Lamplough lead ; and with that view took a compass line betwen Candlelight and the former place on which they have based their operations. Fortunately it has proved a success so far as the discovery of gold is concerned, but that this is the identical lead has yet to be definitely proved. 'I heir claim, whioh at present is situated in a blind gully, has been driven by tunnel about two chains, the wash being about three feet in depth and averaging from one to four grains, and even as much as a pennyweight to the dish of a splendid quality of good heavy gold. The prospectors lodged applications in the Warden's Court for the double area claim, tunnel, water-race, and dam. In making the application for the double area they report for the information of the Warden (hat they v have discovered new gold workings which they believe to bo of a payable nature, situated within the district of Kumara, about midway between Hughes' farm and Noonan's Hotel, between the Greymouth Tramway and the Tereniakau river ; and apply that, in consequence of having done a great d >al of unreraure.ative work in connection with this discovery, they may obtain an increased area on the ground named." That the value of this discovery cannot be over estimated should it be the long lost Lamplough 's lead, we are not pre* pared to deny ; but meanwhile we would caution miners from a distance of being influenced in any way by the exaggerated reports that always are circulated as to the extraordinary richness of aU new discoveries. As some new shafts are now being sunk with a view to test the ground, and as they will strike the wash at about
12 feet, the lead, if any, will soon be conclusively and practically traced. Should the result be the striking of the le.id in the direction surmised, then there is every probability that a new era in iho history of the Kumara g><tldfield will liavo been inaugurated.
