THE CHRISTYS AT PALMERSTON.
The Foxton Christys gave their promised entertainment at Palmerston on Saturday night last to a fair house, the gallery being quite full, though the front and back seats were not so well patronised. Taking advantage of the train arrangements a number of the settlers between Foxton and Palmerston visited the latter township, and attended the performance. The performance, considering the drawbacks of the small stage, was gone through very creditably. As most of the items have been referred to in these colums before, it is unnecessary for us to particularise them again. Mr Howe made a good hit with his comic song, " When my band begins to play," which was vociferously encored. In the second part, the Chinese quartet by Messrs Shore, Gray, Burr, and Connor, took immensely, and had to bo repeated. The other item* which took Avell were — Mr Wilson's song and dance, Mr Connor's comic song, and Mr Jens' song and dance. Wo must not forget to mention Mr Palmer's song, introduced in the second part, " Rocked in the cradle of the deep,'-' which was sung with great taste and expression, and well deserved the encore it received. As the accounts have not yet been closed," wo are unable to state what amount will be the result. The performance was concluded in Liuio for the company to return home by the down train, which arrived at Foxton at 11.30. A large crowd attended on the Palmerstou platform to see the Christys off. Just before the train left, the Christys sang, " For they are jolly good feliows," which was responded to by those on the platform with three ringing cheers as the train moved away. As the train came down the streets at Foxton the members sang the ever-popular " Sweet bye-and-bye."
