Wellington. Friday. Tho past week has been an uneventful one in commercial circles. Trade is steady, but not fis brisk as it might be. "With the exception of sugars, there is no material alteration in value. Sugars have, however, weakened considerably, locally only, in consequence of tho keen competition of wholesale houses. We have been reliably informed that an offer w^s made to sell second quality, refioed, at £38 5s per ton d.p for a small parcel. The market is, therefore, unsettled, and wo refrain from quoting. Messrs Laory and Campbell sold a small line of Queensland whites (ruther yellow} at £40. Mauritius counters arc scarce. A fair business has been dono in bottled ales and stout, but there ia no alteration in values ; the latter, of first-class ! brands, is getting a little scarce ; bulk .is j in light demand, at £9 10s to £10 per hhd, I duty pnid. Supplies of imported candles continue moderate, but demand is slackening as the summer season advances, and quotations are rai her easier. Deßoubaix'a are now quoted at; ftrl to 9.1.(1 per lb, and Price's Belmonts, lOd per ib. Wellington candles (Kitchen's) continue to meet with a brisk demand at 8\& to Sid for petrolincp, and 7Jd to 8d for ntars. j Cement. — The large supplies ptr Wave i Queen, ft'ikaiii, and liermionc, have come ' to hand, but a large proportion of theso parcels has been sold for shipment coastwise afc I 7s to 18s per cask. The shipments j oa tho way by tho Pleione and VVnirou j amount to about 31)00 cask?, and wo may ] therefore expect that to effect sivles lower j rates will bo accepted. A parcel of 500 oasks was transhipped from tho Kakaia for the Timaru harbor works. Tea. — Stocks of common teas in halfchests and boxes are rather short Supplies are coming in by way of Australia, and the Alexa is overdue from Foochow direct, with a large cargo, a contuderable portion of which is for transhipment. Demand continues steady and prices unaltered, the enquiry being principally on the lower qualities. Dried Fruits. — Currants are in fair demand and in good supply at s|d to 6d per lb. Elemes and sultanas ar« also in good supply at easier rates. We quote both sorts at 7d per lb., and demand fair. Muscatels a»e in fair enquiry at In to la 2d per lb. Dried apples arc worth 6d to 6£d. Figs in very little enquiry at 9d to lOd, in small boxes. There has been a little enquiry for galvanised iron, 26 guage, but no large sales have come undor our notice. Quotations are, for Gospel Oak, Davies's, Brady's, and Walker's, ±'26 10b for 668ffc , 26 guage.
