FOXTON LOCAL BOARD.
The Board met at the Athenaeum on Friday eveuing. Present — Messrs Easton (Chairman), Coley, Purcell, Besve, and Jonson. The minutes of last meeting were read aucj confirmed. The inwards correspondence included a letter from the Manager ol the Colonial Hank at Wellington, stating that that institution would pay rates due upon R. Port's Foxton property. Received. Letter read from A. Seabury, asking the Board to open the road near his property, sections 18, 19, 20, and 21. The Clerk was asked to write and ask Mr Seabury if he was willing to contribute part of the cost. Letter read from the Chairman of the Foxton Harbour Board, enclosing copy of resolution re survey of the river, and asking grant-in-aid from the Board. Proposed by Mr»Jonson, seconded by Mr Coley, and carried, " That the Chairman of the Harbour Board be informed that the Local Board is willing to contribute an amount of say ten guineas towards the cost of survey of harbour, as requested,- when the Board is in funds." Letter read from the Town Clerk of Palmerston, giving information re the appointment of a Ranger. Recoived. The following tenders were received for the combined offices of Ranger and Inspector of Nuisance : -0. 11. Collins, £20 per annum ; S, Tansley, ¥ £25; H. Wilson, £26; W. Atkins, £30. The consideration of the tenders was deferred, on the ground that no bye-law was in existence under ■» which the Board could make the appointment. The Clerk was instructed to draft a bye-law dealing with the matter. Upon the motion of Mr Coley, seconded by Mr Reeve, it was resolved, " That the Clerk be instructed to write to the different Insurance Agents, and to the Railway Depart- ' ment, in Foxton, asking if they would be willing to contribute towards the cost of erecting a fire bell in the township." The attention of the Board was directed to the new formation on the Avenue road, and Mr Reeve proposed, " That the Board draw the attention of the County Council to the unfinished state of the work of formation done on the Avenue road, and request that steps be taken by the Council to remedy the defect." Seconded by Mr Jonson, and carried. The only account passed for payment was one to J. Windle, being formation of Moutoaroad, £28 14s 9d, and deposit returned, £5.
