OTAKI HIGHWAYS BOARD.

- - ; : — SATURDAY,, JULY 24. . The Board met at 2.80 p.m. Present— Messrs - Simcox (Chairman), Hadfield, Kebbell, Udy, and M'Crae. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The meeting of the Board • balled , for the 17th July was adjourned by the Clerk to present date. A copy of a letter from the Chairman to the Minister of Public Works, asking^him to sanction a survey *of the road', as per plan enclosed, leading from the mill road to the Otaki river, and running partly through Maori land, was read. , A letter from the Public Works Office, in reply, re survey of road through native land from mill road 'to Otaki River, read; ' Letter from Mr Greenough, re nuisance, was read, and. ordered to be laid on the table. Letter from the IJank of New.Zealand, re fixed deposit, was read. Letter from the Northern Land,

Loan, an 4 Buying Company, re rate of iuteresfe ©rl fiied'deposit, was read. The Board's accounts were then gone into. Proposed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Mr Udy, and carried : — ; " That the accounts of the Board, up to 80th April, 1880, as presented to the Board, be passed." v^^ By leave of the Board Mr HadfieKl moved without notice, " That in the opinion of the Board, if the track to Wellington through the Horowhenua Riding is to be kept free from further obstructions, the Manawatu County Council should take immediate action to determine the position and take legal possession of that part of it described by the Council in the New -Zealand Gazette of May Brd, 1877, as that part of the main line of road from the turning-in of the beach to the south of the Ofcaki river to the inland ford,from thence to and through the town of Hadfield to the beaoh to the north of the Otaki river." A notice of motion re drains in the Otaki Highways District, by Mr Hadfield, was by leave of the Board withdrawn. Accounts to the amount of £6 18s 6d were passed for payment. The next meeting will be held on August 22.
