THE RAIKAKARIKI HOTEL BURNT DOWN.
The abftve well-icnowh hotel wai burnt to the ground at 4 o'clock yesterday moining. Tbe fire is supposed to have originated in the roof, near the chitUley. From the meagre information received,we gather that the proprietor.Mr E. .M, Symons, was about to visit town, and whilst he was catching his horse another person was boiling the kettle. Shor I ly .afterwards the, roof was, seen 'by ; Mr Macaro'b groom to be on fire:., lie at once nave the alarm, but the building could not be saved. A child sleeping upstairs was with great difficulty. Bayed from perishing in the flames. We believe the building was insured, the premium having been paid only a few days ago. Mr Symons will, however, lose all his furniture and fcffeets. - The Otakl' Licensing Court, af its 'fast sitting, refused to license the Lotel. ilnd since then Mr Symons has conducted it as. an accommodation house. The property was owned in Wellington, and held on lease by M r Symons.
[We have to thank Mr G. Pugsley, coatli driver, for the above information^]
