COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTION.

— ♦ the row.. Yesterday was polling day for the County Oouacil election for Awahou riding, and very little interest was tuken in the proceedings. Punctually at 9 o'clock Mr W. Q. Robinson (Returning Officer) took his position in the Courthouse, and shortly afterwards a "free and independent" elector went in to record his vote, matters went on very slowly throughout the day, and very few election " squibs " were perpetrated. Mr Furcell was the only one of the two candidates who used " printer's ink,'' having issued two placards, one " Vote for Purccll, the Independent Candidate "; the other, " Vote for Furcell, and have two members— not one aad a dummy." Mr Gray, the other candidate, took matters very quietly, and was but little seen throughout the day. During the morning only a sprinkling of ratepayers recorded their votes, and at no part of the day was the excitement any more than lukewarm. The conntry settlers were generally speaking in favour of Mr PurceU, though he had several of the large ratepayers in the township against him, and Sir Gray's side worked quietly bat stwdily to
