Christchurch, May 14, No new features have exhibited themselves in the grain market during the past week. Wheat of good quality continues to sell at 3s Cd f.0.b., although there is no anxiety to operate evinced even at that figure. Advices to hand by the last English mail all point to favorable prospects for the next harvest, both here and in America. On the Pacific Slope the prospects are reported to be " brilliant," the rainfall having been abundant and well distributed. No doubt such reports tend to make* the British consumer cautious in his operations. Flour is in good demand, owing to the quality being superior to the Southern article this year. Millers report that they find it necessary to keep the mills constantly working. We repeat last week's quotations of .£lO and £11 for country and tovrn brands respectively. Oats continue to come forward freely at Is 2d to la ocl, according to quality. The latest Melbourne quotations show a rather worse market there. There is no change to note in the value of barley, only choice samples are saleable at a fair price, lower grades being only saleable at feed prices. Potatoes are coming to hand freely, and so far we have not heard any complaints about, quality. It is to be hoped far me: h will continue to be careful iE bagging, as oven when prices are low tliey should bo as faith fuUy picked as whm tley are high. Several sales are reported at -i) 8. Butter and cheese aic unaltered at ' 9d and 4d respectively. Curers have not yet given out thoir pricea for new cure hams and bacon.
