Q^^^^KOTbeen announced that the fnroßffjp to be introduced by ttu Gladstone Ministry having reference to Ireland will be confined to legislation for the relief of tho distress existing in that country. > The Australians commenced then second match to-day at Derby, where they met an eleven of Derbyshire, The Australians went first to the wickets, and scored 129 in their innings. Bannerman made a top score of 32. The English team then went in, and the Australians succeeded in getting them all out for 45 runs. In this innings Spofforth and Palmer each took five wickets. The Derbyshin men then followed their innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day, they had made 21 runs with the loss of one wicket. The weather during the whole day's play was fine, and the ground was lively, and suited the Australians. The Right Hon. G. J. Goschen has started for the purpose of acting as Charles Stewart Parnell, Esq., member for Meath, has succeeded William Shaw, Esq., member foi Cork, as leader of the Home Eule '** party in the House of Commons. Constantinople, May 17. The assassin of Commeroff,the late attache to the Eussian Embassy here, has not yet suffered the sentence of death passed upon him. The Sultan, it appears, made a proposal to the Czar of Russia, who had previously demanded the execution of the assassinj that the death sentence should be commuted. The Czar, however, has refused to consent to this, and repeats his demand that the death sentence should be carried out. In consequence of Albania having issued proclamation of independence, communications have been exchanged between the Great Powers, -and ambassadors have consequently tlemanded the dispatch of Turkish troops to surround Albanian districts. The Great Powers will in no way countenance the independence of that province, and it has has been found imperative for OrlofF to re* sume his post there. Melbourne, May 18. It is stated that a match has been arranged between Trickett and Hanlon, for the sculling championship of the world, to come off in October next. Sydney, May 18. A labor schooner from Noumea has f been wrecked at Saumerez Eeef. K^The captain and four of the crew, a boat, have been picked up. They state that four more Europeans, including the Government agent, and 99 Kanakas were left on a reef without provisions. A steamer has stars ted from Eockhampton to the rescue. It is four days since the wieck took place.
