(reuter's telegrams.) Sydney, Monday. The P. M.S. Australia arrived here yesterday from Auckland. The barque Chaudernagore has been seized for debt. Some of the mines at Newcastle are charging 14s and others 10s per ton for coal. Melbourne, Monday. The Premier has telegraphed to tno Imperial Government, to enquire whether there was any one of the name of Webster on board the missing ship Knowsley Hall. The reply, it is thought, will give conclusive evidence as to the truth of the letter found in a bottle at Portland. Obituary — Moses Riutel, chief of the Hebrews in Melbourne. Six sailors aboard the barque Twee Vriemdren, from Java, have died of a serious fever which is raging in the ship. London, May 8. At the wool sale to-day, 8,400 bales were offered, making a total of 172,800 catalogued since the opening. There was a fair demand. Herbert Gladstone, son of the Premier, has been elected for Leeds unopposed. Washington, May 8. A Select Committee appointed to revise the tariff of the United States, has recommended that the import duties on wool be reduced. Adelaide , Monday.
