THE WAIKANAE FERRY.
TO THE EDITOU OF THE MAJJATVATU ITERATE. Sic, — In your issue of the 16th inst, there appears a letter signed " Kaiwhaka Whiti," commenting upon the writer of this for bringing under thejnotice of the Count/ Council an excessive charge levied upon the travelling public, by the ferryman at Waikanae River, Per*
hap* Mr Whiti is the ferryman ; if so, I wish to inform him that my statements to the Council were simply tntth, while his in your paper are a tissue of falsehoods, which could easily be proven if such a step was worth the trouble. In order to save Mr Whiti the trouble of any further correspondence, I bog to inform him that I hope to have the pleasure of seeing him in tho course of a few days, on his own ground ; where I shall again expose the excess complained of if he attempts to extort one shilling instead sixpence from passengers carried across the kanae River. I am, &c. James Lintox. Palmerston, April 16th, 1880. I We have taken the liberty of altering one or two expressions in Mr Linton's letter, which trench rather closely on the law of libel.— Ed. M. Hebald.]
