LOCAL BOARD ELECTION.
The nomination of a candidate to fill the seat on the Locil Board vacated by Mr A. J. Whyte, was held at the Court House ou Wednesday last. About 15 ratepayers were present. At 12 o'clock the Returning Officer, E. S. Thynne, Esq , read the announcement of vacancy, and called for nominations. Mr Coley proposed Mr John Purcell as a fit and proper person to become a Commissioner, and Mr Osborne se onded. Mr Birehley proposed Mr Andrew Jonson as a candidate, and Mr Gray seconded. On a show of hands being called for, Mr Thynne gave the result as follows : —For Mr Jonson 4 ; for Mr Purcell, 3. A poll was then demanded by Mr Purcell, and a vote of thanks to the Returning Officer concluded the pro* ceedings. THE POLL was taken yesterday, with the following result : — Purcell .. ..18 Jonson . . . . 17 Mr Purcell was therefore declared duly elected.
