At eveiy pier the cutwater planning is carried away, | more or less. At two pjers the cutwater piles are brrtkeh. The timber approaoh on south side^pf river has now a curve through the heavy weight of debris and battering it> had. one 4>ieri of the approaoh every pile is broken, and other piers either one or more pileß broken. The water has washed complete channel on northern side of approach. ■ Altogether it is a complete wreck, and will cost quite £200 or £250 to put it in ito former state. What is required is another 80-ft span on S. side, and the tim* ber approach carried out beyond, at the fgame time raising end of approaoh quite four or five feet ; from this run a good embankment to the shore. There are also required three good substantial fender oribs. Altogether I estimate that £1600 would be required to be spent on this bridge to make same complete, and water way sufficient for the river. A gang pf^nen are now employed clearing the largft aiyint Of* debris away from piers. ■,, jfeg-, : j^«?"' Awahuri Bridgehas aw^flunw&d oonsiderable 3*ina£e.V~ The! One' of the fender cribs has washed put and gone down the river. The «stoadh on? S. side has bQenuqderßuhbdi m& tiufa-of, the piles in the piers are broken, ,< I erooctin about ' . tedi days the bridge will be We to' be thrown open for traffio again. I propose driving ten extra piles at ithe two end spans, and,,; building --a JJOf t pieoe to the Bridge on northern. side.: ,T§e,grohn are. a|l standing t well, and ground is making behind same.' '

He thought that plan would also prove more econon\icaj,' andinore|w^rk roykLbe done for the money than under the "usual system of tendering.
