EDUCATION BOARD.

The Board met at Wanganui on Wednesday last. We collate from the Chronicle the items of interest to this district.

A letter from the Government was read, stating that the Board's proportion of the Library Grant amounted to £207 16s 9d, which would be paid over subject to certain conditions.

Also, That the proportion for Wanganui of the £50,000 vote for school buildings would be £4000 for the period ending March, 1880. Further, that the Board had already received £ 1500 of this £4000. A letter was read from the Chairman of tho Foxton School Committee, complaining that the Committee had not been furnished by the Inspector with -a proper official list of the result of the examinations held in Dec. last. The Secretary read the Chairman's letter in reply, stating that the report would be furnished as soon as ready. Letter read from Moutoa School Committee, re damage done by the floods. The members for the district were requested to report on the same. Letter read from Karere School Committee, asking for a drill-book and for additions to dwelling-house, to accommodate a pupil teacher. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Rosa, that tenders bo called for the necessary additions to residence. Letter read from 27 settler* on the Douglas Block, asking tho Board to call a meeting of householders at Campbeiltown, for the purpose of forming a new school district, and forwarding plan of proposed boundaries. Request complied with, mooting to be held on the third Saturday in April, at 2 p.m., and the boundaries as amended by the Board to be those of the new school district. The following is the result of the ballot for members of the Board : — G. M. Snelson, 39votusj Notman, 34; Rev. Rosb, 28; J. Duigan, 27. The first three were declared elected. An application from the Foxton school for increased teaching power was held over, pending the quarterly returns.
