OTAKI HIGHWAYS BOARD.

« Saturday, March 20, 1880. The Board met at the offioe at 2 p.m. Present — Messrs W. H.Simeox (Chairman), A. J. Hadfield, J. M'Crae, ani Dr. Hewsou. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. An advertised meeting of the Board was to have boen held on the 13th March, but in consequence of there not being a quorum of Wardens present, the meeting was fixed for the 20th instant. Letter read from Seoretary to Treasury, stating that a oheque for £19 3s 7d, being subsidy for the half year ending 30th June, 1880, had been paid into the Board's account. Also, a letter from tho Bank of New Zealand. Foxton, stating that the sum of £19 3s 7d, being subsidy for the six months endiu_3o_h June, 1880, had been placed to the credit of the Board's account. Letter read from Thos. Bevan, applying to the Board for a money assistance for tha formation of 40 chains of road through native land leading to the Foxton-Otaki road. Proposed by Mr Hadfield, seconded by Dr.|Hewson, and carried, " That in reference to Mr Bevan' s application for formation of a road from the Foxton-Otaki road, he be informed that the Board will not entertain any such application until the native owners of the land through which the proposed road passes hand over the land necessary for such road fco the Board." Proposed by Mr Hadfield, seconded by Mr M'Crae, and carried, "That a special meeting of the Ofcaki Highways Board be held on the 3rd April, at 2 o'clook, for the purpose of levying a rate of sixpence in the £ for the year ending 31st Maroh 1881." Proposed by Mr Hadfield, secondel by Mr M'Crae, and carried, " That the consideration of the Board's accounts be post, poned until the next meeting 1 ." Aocounts to the amount of £2 7s 6d were passed for payment.
