CRICKET MATCH.
I «. 1 palmerston v. feilding. A private match between Feilding and Palmerston took place at the former township on Saturday last, the Palmerston men being captained hy Mr Lloyd, and the Feildingites by Mr G. Bartholomew. Palmerston went to the stumps at noon, and were disposed of by two o'clock for 85 runs. Af-ei a brief interval for luuch, the Feilding men went to the stumps, and after a career of about two hours the
last wicket 'fell wifc,h a score of 144. There being no time to play a second*, innings the Feilding Beam was declared the winner by 59 mns. Tbe v cbief features of the game were tb-tAfead fielding of Palmerston (which! indicated a sad lack of practice), anosha excellent bowling on both sides, tiioie especially that of Feilding. Roe secured a veiy pretty catch off one of his own balls, -dismissing Turner, acd Pickhard junr., who was at longfieldoff, sent Mason to the tent by a i eaily clever catch. Writsen and Roe showed themselves good bowlers fov Feilding, and Mason upheld his reputation as Palmerston's best bowler. The top score of the match was made 4 by Watson, of Palmerston, with 80 runs; Picard junr, of Feilding, coming next with 21 ; whilst Mason took third place with 16.
