CORRESPONDENCE.

[We are not responsible for the opinions of our correspondents.] THE CARANDINI CONCERT. TO THE E7UTOK OF THE MANAWATU HERALD. Sin, — The Carandini Concert given last Saturday must be considered a complete success for ftir>re reasons than one. First, the public of Foxton had a most, pleasing musical entertainment of a highly cultivate i and refiued order. Second, the house being well filled, showed that the people could appreciate irusical talent. This I think is attributable to the fact that their taste hus been cultivated or educated (niairly by the Choral Society), into a love of music ; and third and not least is the Public Hall, without which there would be no inducement tor talented musicians to pay a visit here. For those reasons T think Fo.xton may congratulate itself on its improvement. I can remember a time when no amount of musical talent would have attracted such an audience, which shows that not even depression of trade nor home attachments will keep people away when a really t 'ood concer*. is M ven ? ann " * fesc * s Tl^ j that it should be t-o, for money spent on ! music will often occupy the spare moments of pt-rs ns who otherwise would waste their time J'nd money on worfifa objects. As i<n i old resident I have pleasure in paying a tribute to those who have spent their time and energies in cultivating th'i musical in stincts of the people here, and • although it may cost the members of the Choral Society some self sHcrifice, and even somelit'Je squabbles with those who may occasionally differ from them, still I hope th.y will persevere ; and I also hope the public will show their nppremti'ii of the efforts made by rolling up to a man and filling the Hall. I will not say more at present, but remain, Yours, &c, Old Sutti.hu and a Lovki: ov Music. Foxton, February '+?>.
