TKNDKRS will be received AT THE PUBLIC WORKS OFFICE, HAWERA, until noon on MONDAY, 2nd February, 1880, for gravplling three contracts of HALF A MILK each on the mainline of road west of the Waingongoro River, and commencing at the Bridge. They must be addressed to the Hon. Minister fcr Public Works, and marked outside " Tender for Gravelling •" Specifications and conditions may be seen at the Public Works Offices Wellington, Wanganui. Hawera, and New Plymouth; also at the Post Office, Carlyle; Telegraph Office, Normanby ; and at the Armed Constabulary Camp at Opunake. Telegraphic tenders, similarly addressed and marked, will be received as above if presented at any Telegraphic Office by noon of the same date, provided that written tenders in due form are lodged at any of the above named offices by the same hour, and accompanied by a deposit cheque on some Bank in the town where the tender is lodged for the amount named in the specification, such cheque to be specially marked by a banker as good for twenty-one days, and to be in favor of the Receiver - General's Deposit Account only, and not to bearer or order. The lowest, or r.ny tender will not necessarily be accepted. N.B. — The above works are the first of a series of contracts which will extend northwards of Waingongoro rivors. Parties tendering will be required to prospect for and find a supply of gravel as near the work sis possible, and each tenderer must state the least number of teams he intends to employ on the work. The Osprey is an iron paddle steamer of 28 tons register an I 15 horse power nominal, aud she holds an extended river certificate which enables her to trade between Porirua and Eangitikei. Her machinery having received a thorough overhaul, Bhe now steams about G miles an hour. Her carrying capacity is large, being able to stow 300 sacks of oat or 10,000 feet of timber. Her draught is not more than 3 feet loaded, therefore adapted for any trade. She has berth accommodation for* four hands. Terms, which will be easy, will be declared at sale.
