FOXTON ROWING CLUB MEETING.
A meeting of the above Club was held at Whyte's Hotel on Wednesday evening last, Mr J. T. Stewart, \ ice- President, iv the chair. There was a large attendance of members. It wa3 reported that the total liabilities of the Club were £33 2s 7d, whilst the prizes won at the recent regatta together with some subsriptions paid in, swelled the credit balance to ±'35 3.s 6d. The whole of the debts wore paid off, including the balance due for racing boats as follows, viz., Queen Mab, £10 ; Duchess of Devonshire, £8 15s ; also £5 to Messrs Johnston & Co , for the old wharf, which had been utilised in the erection of a gral ins* leading from the shed to the water. The captain (Mr A. W. Howe) was authorised to sell a portion of the grating not needed by the Club, to the best advantage for cash, and was also authorised to obtain a piece of chain sufficient to secure the grating from being carried away by flood. The Secretary (i\lr G. Gray) reported that thi're were 15 members on the books, all of whom had paid the current year's subscription, and Mr W. Shore was elected a member of the Club. It -was resolved have a written copy of the rules and bye laws placed in the boatshod. A vote of thanks was passed to the members who so successfully pulled in the Queen Mab for the inrigged races during the recent regatta, and the same gentlemen were requested to represent the Foxton Rowing Club in the iurigged race at the forthcoming Wanganui regatta in March, the Clubs there having given a very pressing invitation to the Foxtonians to try their strength on tin Wanganui Rivet-. It was resolved to give young Collins 10s, as a reward for hi* successful steering on Anniversary Day.and f o make him a fren member for the current year. A hearty vote of thanks was also accorded to Messrs. J. W. Liddell and A. W. Howe for their respective donations, the former gentlemen having handed over the second prize in the sailing race won by the Electra, anounting to £2, and the latter the sculler's race prize, amounting to £3. The club appeared to be unanimously of opinion that- a second inrigged gig was desirable, and the Secretary was instructed to write to the various Clubs ia Wellington, iiskiiij? whether they were disposed to sell a boat of the class of the Queen Mab, and the prico required. So soon as an answer is received, the Club Till be called together to consider the question of ways and means, and to decide upon the purchase or rejection of any boat or boats that may be offered. The club is to be congratulated upon the satisfactory position in which it stands, and we hope, now that it h'»B shown itself capable of worthily representing Foxton, the residents of the district will thoroughly support it, and that the members will exercisu such economy and care in its internal management as to be fullj p justified in making any further appeal to the sympathies and pookets of the j settieiy.
