FOXTON SCHOOL COMMITTED.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of householders of the Foxton school distriofc wa9 held at the schoolhome last evening. At 7.30 only six persons were in attendance. Mr Gray was voted to the chair, and read the following report and balance-sheet of the outgoing Committee : — The School Committee, in presenting the usual annual report to the householders, are able to congratulate them on the fact that the work of the school is now carried on in a building fully adequate to meet the wants of tho place for possibly some years yet to come. The new building was completed and handed over on July 2, and school duties were commenced therein shortly after. As yet the attendance has not increased as it ought to have done, and there can be now no exouse for keeping children away be-

e mse of -overcrowding, and consequent un. healthiness of the school. The attendanoa of the past year, as compared with that of the previous year, per quarter, was as follows:—

During the year an assistant-mistress (Miss M'Phee) has been appointed, and one-of the pupil taaohers (Miss Sedcole)' recently resigned. According, to a circular lately lssuea.by the Education Board of the District, tha Committee bave.^ent i Q & weroQ*j}ijdiaLia_ required still further at our school, and amongst other items they stated a aura of £20 for providing permanent means of recreation, Ac, for the use of the children, We. hope this sum will be obtained, as <he want to be supplied therewith is very appa-. rent, and to a certain extent serious. The Committee would recommend to the consideration of their successors the desir,a- . bility of getting, the other, thinga doneas ■ soon as funds therefor can be^btainedj And ' iv retiring would desife to placW on record their high appreciation of the work done by the master of the school. Mr, Bulke, as evidenced by the results of the examina- ; tion, and express a hope that continued success will attend his labors here. The Committee append to this a statement of moneys received and expended, aa required by law. ~ ' Alexander Ghat,'' Chairman.

Examined and found correct. — Robert Ct. Palme n. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Ttie Chairman then called on those present to elect a new Committee. Ijt. appeared, however, that out pf the six gentle^ men present four declined to acf, and as the law requires that the Committee shnll meet directly after their election, it wa3 found impossible to proceed any further, and lha Chairman was requested to notifV^b* Board that a sufficient number had uot att tended to elect the Committee, and request it to fix another day, and appoint the rneeU ing to take place at 8 o'clock, instead of 7. The proceedings closed with a vote of thenks • to tho Chairman. %
